Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to learn to play/sing?

How much practice do I need?

It depends on the difficulty of the music you are learning and what your goal is. Take for example a grade one standard learner – generally speaking, they should be practicing for around 10-30 minutes, 3-4 times a week . The practice time will need to increased if there is a deadline that needs to be met for example for an examination or performance.

We have had students who have started out as beginners and who have achieved grade 8 in 4 years but to achieve this they have practiced every day for 4 hours. Others have achieved grade one in 5 years of learning with no or very little practice. As a general rule the more practice you do between lessons the quicker you will learn and the more competent you become at playing your chosen instrument.
